GroundHog 2000

Although this is my third GroundHog Day as an editor here at Suite101, I've only done one other article on this, one of my FAVORITE holidays. Right after last year's article, we learned that the glorious Canadian albino GroundHog, Wiarton Willy, had expired. How very sad! Well, it seems the Legend Of Wiarton Willie is sure alive and well on the Web! My first plunge into cybersurfing brings up "Willie's World" where you can BUY books, and pins and even an official Wiarton Willie Whizbee (*sigh). But it does seem that they have indeed found another albino Hog to succeed Wiarton Willie and they're calling him Wee Willie. The whole deal IS HERE.

The discussion that followed last year's GROUND HAWWWWWG story treats us to Ambler Annie, resident hog of Russ who lives in Ambler, PA and also the entire frustrating tale (tail?) of a FAMILY of erde schweins who moved into my fenced-in CuttingGarden and wreaked havoc BIG time. I can assure you, I will keep an eye on that hole of theirs, but I can't imagine they're going to pop up for anything (not even hormones) in this incredibly frozen snow we have right now. Interesting to read last year's chattering and realize it was only raining.

Now, in this Year 2000 search for Ground Hogs on the Web, the very first site I turn up (asking MonsterCrawler to get out there and dig up hogs) shows me a 'device' that is useful for rodeo arenas and landscaping. (*blink-blink*) OH yeah, those are two things I always include in the same sentence. This beast has hydraulically operated 'ripper shanks', double grader-blades, 24 depth-adjustable tines and a finish roller with 94 clod-busting pegs. Why, it'll even level those pesky feeding ruts in your pasture, it will! And you can use it to level driveways, construction sites and landscaping. (I guess they mean you can use it to LEVEL all your landscaping....just like a REAL ground hog.) Hey, all this can be yours for a mere $3995.00 for the really BIG hog that is 12' wide and dragged around behind a 100+hp tractor....next!

Ever wonder what the original lyrics were to Doc Watson's song "Ground Hog"? Well, here ya go! (I have to warn you, they EAT it! "Ground Hog gravy all over her chin"??? Eeeewwwww!) I ASSURE you, we have MUCH better lyrics over in Scribbles GroundHog Day Carols!!
