Lyme Disease...take SEVEN

© Barbara Hall

OH yes, you read that right. Seventh time around with this. And THIS round came after a full five years of not being bitten, so the discouragement meter was OFF the chart.

Any of you who have danced around with Lyme more than once know too well that "No, it's not.....it can't be....not again....I just 'slept funny, that's it....." Most of you who have NEVER had it live either in fear of it or denial of it.....Weird illness the teeny tiny ticks bring to us......

As far as I can figure in hindsight (which is 20/20 with clean lenses), I may well have been bitten during the 3rd week in May while helping to plant 42 blueberry bushes in tall, WET grasses. Yes. A swampy meadow, for HOURS....I never saw a tick or a bite or a rash. But about a week later I had an episode of what I can only call 'ONSET SYMPTOMS'- this clearly overwhelming feeling of just being plain old SICK. Alllll over. Vaguely upset stomach that doesn't give over to ANYthing but sleep, a sick kind of weariness and an incredible inabliltiy to put up with ANYTHING. The littlest things seem completely overwhelming. And I was trying to buy my very first financed car at this moment. (No way, THAT's not overwhelming, NOT a chance!)....But not wanting to think about Lyme and not seeing any bite or rash, all I knew was that I was unwell and I shifted into overdrive and began to take CARE of myself. I started right on Grapefruit Seed Extract, got some extra rest and felt really quite alright other than cranky for the next MONTH or so. As a matter of fact I felt SO OK that I stopped the GrapeFruit Extract after a few days and called it a 'false alarm'. I honestly can't say I was aware of feeling Lyme-y during that month other than overwhelmed by everything. And that's hard to pin on being sick with a job as HUGE as mine is (and the drought hadn't really STARTED yet)

I remember clearly having another episode of feeling just plain ole SICK on July 10th as I was at a large music festival just beginning to feel miserable. By the next day it was unmistakable. I was in bed, EVERYTHING hurt, it had to be Lyme, nothing else feels THIS awful.
