OK, the computer gods have spoken. I just spent an hour and a half writing this week's article only to have it completely disappear before making it to the Internet.
So, I'm taking this as a sign that I should have been writing about Father's Day. Weddings tend to bring us closer to our mothers. Most mothers have been looking forward to their daughter's wedding day for years. She'll be beautiful and happy and have a wonderful life. They help us choose a dress, a cake, flowers, the reception hall. Where's dad in all this? Standing back a little and realizing that the same event that brings mother and daughter closer is formally announcing that he has been replaced as the man in his little girl's heart. Of course, as a bride, we don't tend to see this. It is a fairly self-absorbed time in our lives. I have a few suggestions for you. 1. Watch Father of the Bride. Either version. Maybe even with your father. Now tell Dad you love him. 2. Choose the perfect song for your Father/Daughter dance. We didn't have the traditional dances, but I did get to dance with my dad to Cat Stevens. I will remember that every time I hear the song. I've taken the liberty of starting the search for you. "Through The Years" by Kenny Rogers - I wouldn't choose it, but it's popular. "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole/Natalie Cole - A bit overused, but a beautiful song. You can't beat this for father/daughter ties either. "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong-A classic. This one works for darn near anyone. "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker - This one might look better id Dad chooses it. ;-) "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle - The newest entry in wedding songs. "She's Leaving Home" by The Beatles - You just might make Mom cry (or laugh) with this one. "In My Life" by Bette Midler - I love Bette, and anyone can dance slow song. "Hero" by Mariah Carey - Let him know that he's still your hero. "Because You Love Me" by Celine Dion - After all, you didn't get here alone. What song did you dance to? Which songs are you considering? Let me know about your Father/daughter dance on our discussion boards. You have to be a member to post, but I promise it's quick and painless (and if you're worried about spam, I'll tell you that we don't share your e-mail. Still worried? Use hotmail). Go To Page: 1
