There's something to be said for a discount bridal shop - they can save you a LOT of money.
However, my first - and last - trip to look for gowns was a discount shop. I walked in with my mom, ready to dress up like Cinderella and find the perfect image in the mirror. It didn't happen. Instead, I was given a stack of dresses at least 8 sizes too large and the "consultant" told me that my simple imaginings weren't what a wedding dress was all about. I was disillusioned and tired after that trip. We put off another visit to any shop indefinitely. Luckily for me, I tried on a family dress for kicks and found Cinderella in the mirror. Not everyone is so lucky. Recently, my sister began shopping for wedding gowns. Remembering my ordeal, neither Mom or I was anxious to embark. Still, it had to be done, the family dress wasn't made for a 5 foot 2 gal. By sheer phone book luck, we found Margo's Bridal in MidEast Missouri. Margo set up an appointment with us that day (lucky, since we had extra helpful family in town). Although we had all poured over bridal magazines for a month picking out favorites, none of us remembered to bring the clips. We walked into Margo's gown room and basked for a minute in sheer luxury before diving into the dresses and pulling out our favorite gems. It didn't take long to realize there were four distinct opinions in the room and one very confused bride. Then Margo walked in. This is where things changed dramatically from anywhere that sells discounted dresses. Margo's first words were exactly what any bride should hear -"this is your wedding, take their opinions into account, but remember that you are picking out this dress for your day. You can wear whatever makes you feel beautiful." Next she let all of us go through the dresses and choose the ones we thought were best suited for Steph. As we pulled dresses she would give us tips like - "that waist will really help lengthen Steph's short torso" or "her skin may be better shown with the ivory than the white." There were also a few " Steph, you're making a face here - what do you think of that dress?" After our choices were made, Margo added on a few of her own - "Just to try." Go To Page: 1 2
