Food Choices

The food at a wedding does a little more of that tone-setting that I keep talking about. It can also be one of the most expensive parts of your wedding--choose carefully. The first consideration should be your guests. Do you have a large amount of vegetarian friends? Will this be a kosher group? Will your little sister protest the choice of veal? Keep these things in mind as you proceed.

Many couples choose a sit down meal--while this can be elegant, keep in mind that it is not your only option. Buffet can be a good way to let people with different tastes clear their plates. Appetizers can substitute for a meal if you're wedding is at the right time. An early wedding can be followed by a brunch or tea. I like both of those ideas--a little off the beaten path--but still a nice arrangement.

We chose a buffet style serving method with a variety of food. This was a good way for us to make sure that there was something for everyone. For example--my fiance had to have little smokies for his football buddies. I love stuffed mushrooms. This set-up also helped us keep the formality down--which we wanted. We were hoping to have people walk into our reception and just let go and have fun--it worked. We also found that we were able to talk to everyone more easily since people were up at different times and milling more. There was a downside to this as well. Neither of us ever had the chance to eat. I picked up a plate of food--but somehow lost it.
