Shoes

It never fails to amaze me how much time soon-to-be-brides spend on their shoes. Can I let you in on a secret? If you are wearing a floor length dress, chances are, nobody will see your shoes.

People will be looking at you and your dress. If your fiance is lucky, one or two people might notice his tux. The shoes are for you. If you feel good in them, they are perfect. I wore an ivory gown and intended to wear one set of shoes for the ceremony and one for the reception. Even though I have teased for years about going barefoot, I trudged to all kinds of stores to find shoes. I found lace, high heel tennies perfect for a fun outdoor reception — and couldn't find shoes for the wedding that looked good without costing an arm and a leg. I finally tried the tennies on with the dress. Even when I walked you could barely see them. I decided my own physical and financial comfort would be best served with the tennies.

As a side note: I forgot the shoes the day of the wedding (my hair took so long I did my makeup on the way to the church) and did go barefoot. The only one who objected was the photographer — and the red toes pictures are some of my favorites. It's your day. Do it it your way.

All this said, I am not the great Oz. If shoes make you feel good — SPLURGE.
