While the two events were unarguably devastating, the relative obscurity of the drought in comparison to the hurricane cannot be ignored.

Drought, it can be argued, is the most dangerous of natural disasters because it is gradual and it is silent. So scientists work to understand drought in order to better predict it and, ultimately, help us live in harmony with it.
