How to Build Your Own Small Fountain for a Deck or Patio

Apr 1, 2000 - © Vicki Paull

  • Cut a hole in the hardware cloth for the hose to go through and place it in pot 2.
  • Now add water and check the flow. It is much easier to adjust the flow now than it will be later. When you are satsfied with the flow, empty the water out, and lift off pot 2.
  • Cut the furnace filter into strips and wrap them around the inside of pot 3. This is your filter and the more you use the less often you will have to clean the pump.
  • Put the fountain back together.
  • Play with the spacing and arrangement until you like the look of the fountain.
  • Lay the stones on the hardware cloth and around the hose. You may need to trim the hose after you get the rocks arranged to your satisfaction.
  • Put several inches of pea gravel in the bottom of pot 1. Now fill it with water, plug it in and enjoy the sound.
