Places to Go and Things to Do in 2002 - Part V

Wonder what this week will bring? Join me for Part V of this series. You'll be surprised at the variety of things to do in Washington State even in the winter.

Are you ready for this week's adventures? I like to make sure there's a variety for everyone, so get those legs ready and let's get going!

Go Surfing

How many of you think of Washington State as a place to surf the big waves?

You don't?

Well, it is.

Surfing is big time in our state for the tough-at-heart. You just might need a wet suit for the temperatures, though. It's no sunny scene this time of year.

Travis Moegling emailed me last fall to let me know about his surfing business, Lost Coast Adventures. He runs a surfing camp on the Olympic Peninsula. His site and what he has to offer is enticing. Book a surfing trip for the family!

Lost Coast Adventures offers a five-night family surfing camp on an "ancient tribal beach." Another option is to bike, trek, surf, raft, canoe and kayak on an eight-day adventure that sounds like heaven to the outdoor enthusiast. Rain forest, hot springs, camping on the beach. Oh - you've got me now, Travis!

But back to other surfing opportunities in Washington State.

One of the other places you'll find surfers on a good surf day is at Westport. Click on this link to see the webcam and get a daily surf report from the Surf Shop in Westport. Pay attention to the report, folks. The undercurrent can be bad at times.

There are only two days left to sign up for the First Annual Surfrider Winter Clean Water Classic Surf Contest to be held February 16-17, 2002. Information and the registration form is at the Surfrider site - looks like a lot of fun to go watch even if you're not a surfer.

See photos of some surfers at another site - Neah Bay. After looking at the photos click "go back" and catch some more great surf photos. You may also catch the "bikini-of-the-month" photo here. Hey, they're respectable gals and go along with summer surfing! Some of the site links are bad, but it's worth "surfing around."

Well, if you aren't chilled by now, I don't know why. But I know the thing to warm you up.

Drink a Big Mug of Hot Cocoa

I remember the mugs of hot cocoa Mama made when I was a kid. We had marshmallows if we chose. Then we'd dip buttered toast into the cup and eat the dripping chocolate treat that way until gone. It was comfort food if ever there was one.
