Places to Go and Things to Do in 2002 - Part IV

This series seems to be pretty popular so I'm continuing. I welcome your input. Thanks.

Garden Show Reminder

Would you believe my butterfly bush is starting to bud and I have daffodils coming up? What's happening? It's way too early. How about your gardens?

Did you make plans to attend the flower shows I posted in Part I at http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/3983... ? Hope so. They should be great. There's still time to make plans.

See a Play

When was the last time you went to the theatre? My last one was in Idaho last fall. I love community theatre especially.

How many of you read Ethan Frome? I watched it on the Arts and Entertainment Channel last fall and it still saddens me, but it is a classic. Why not attend the Book It Reperatory Theatre's presentation of Ethan Frome? It's playing January 15-February 10, 2002, at the Intiman Theatre in Seattle at 201 Mercer.

This is the Seattle theatre where we first took our daughter to experience a play in the "big city." It was fun.

Walla Walla is a pretty "artsy" city in southeast Washington. Check out their Walla Walla Community College Theatre schedule for what's afoot beginning in February.

Register for a Wine Industry Course

Since we're checking out Walla Walla theatre at the community college, why not register for a class in wine making? You'll learn about the history of winemaking in Walla Walla and Washington State. You'll visit a vineyard and a grape farmer and then take in an artisan winery to learn about the craft. Learn how to evaluate and taste wines and visit two local wineries. Now that sounds like a class, doesn't it?

Take Tea

Whether you're in Oregon, Washington or British Columbia, the tea's on. Sharon and Ken Foster-Lewis share their tea ramblings in their book, Tea Time in the Northwest, ISBN 0-9617699-6-3, published by Speed Graphics in Seattle, Washington, 1996. Excellent book.

The Windsor Garden Tea Room housed in a 1936 Victorian house in Edmonds sounds like the perfect place to have tea. They even have an outside garden if you choose. For more information call (206) 712-1387.

My interest in the Lighthouse Gifts and Tea Room in an old boarding house in Newport, Washington, is high. Visit their site at http://www.thelighthousegifts-tea.com/ and be enticed. It was featured in Sunset Magazine in the May, 2001, issue. It sounds like a place you want to spend time, full of history and unique gifts aside from the tea experience.

And I'd also like to do the historical tour of the gold rush. T ...
