Places to Go and Things to Do in 2002 - Part I

© Jerri Brooker

Happy New Year everybody! Hope this day rings in the best New Year ever.

For the next several weeks I'll be covering things to do in Washington state this time of year whether you're a resident or a vacationer. Indoors or out. Won't you join me?

2002.

That has a good ring to it, don't you think? A new year in a new century. Everytime a new year starts I look forward to new experiences.

The New Year is an exciting time for me because I decide to use my time doing the things I like to do. The shortest day of the year is over, spring is in sight and newness awaits.

Our winters in western Washington don't change things much - it perhaps just rains longer and harder, but the snow in eastern Washington and in the mountains does change the scenery. The kid in me wants to come out and play when the snow starts. You don't have to be a skier if you like to play in the snow, but if you are a skier here are some great places to ski.

Go Skiing

I've always liked snow. I also like to ski. If you're a skier Washington State is a good place to be right now. We have a number of ski resorts and folks flock to them in droves. Why not join them? The list of the most popular places follows:

1) Stevens Pass
2) Crystal Mountain
3) Mission Ridge
4) Mt. Baker Ski Area
5) Summit at Snoqualmie
6) White Pass
7) 49 Degrees North
8) Mt. Spokane

I've been to Stevens Pass, White Pass, Mission Ridge, Snoqualmie and Crystal. They all have their own brand of wonder to offer. I'm sure the others do, too. If you'd like more personal information on these ski areas, send me an email or ask in the discussion area. I have to say the all-around best place to learn to ski is Crystal Mountain. It also has the most challenges for the advanced skier. But all the areas are good. We've enjoyed skiing them all.

Get those snow legs ready!

Some of the areas offer not only downhill skiing but cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Here's a map for the locations: Go Northwest Ski Map. There are other smaller areas located on the map for your convenience. This picture is me showing off new skis at Mission Ridge. Fun!
