Holiday Shopping Time in Washington

© Jerri Brooker

Every year I like to take you around the the Internet to do some holiday shopping Washington-style. Join me as I do my annual trek. Hope you find some good buys and have lots of fun looking around for special gifts for family and friends straight from Washington State merchants.

Northwest Washington

My first stop is at HerGardenHisFarm in an old barn now a gift shop in Mt. Vernon, WA. Take a virtual tour; I loved looking inside from the comfort of my office. This is an in-person shopping experience. Home decor, cards, soaps, pots, fountains, pottery chickens and other goodies await you in this old barn. The site provides a map so you won't get lost.

A cyber-visit or a personal visit to the Chuckanut Bay Gallery and Garden Shop in Bellingham, WA, will bring joy to you and your gift recipients. When looking for unique gifts made by Washington artists, this is a great first stop. You'll find raku rattles, crab sculptures, heron art, cat jewelry, painted figurative porcelain, garden art (I love the Igors and insect art). Well, you'll just have to visit this place. Now. Click on the link and be pleasantly surprised. Then call toll-free to order. The owners want to personally make sure your needs are met.

The Family Tree Picture Globe Company in Anacortes will make a special ornament using your contributed photo for that person who has everything. They'll take your order online or by mail. Visit their site to see what their company's about. Make sure you get your order in quickly so there's time to get it for the holiday season. They donate part of their proceeds to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

If you're into books and want to support a local bookstore, Elliott Bay Book Company on 101 South Main in Seattle has been around for what seems like forever. They handle over 150,000 new, used and rare titles. You may browse and shop in person or online. After searching for a book you conveniently call 1-800-962-5311 to order and your gift's on its way. Gift certificates are also nice.

Need a laptop bag, a book bag, a bike messenger bag or a computer backpack - to name a few? Visit TOM BIHN, Port Angeles, WA, to shop for these and other specialty bags designed and manufactured in the United States. These are great gifts for the geek in the family.
