Two Different Waterfront Communities: Redondo and Gig Harbor

Salty's Restaurant - Excellent - Only One in Town

I found out some interesting history on Redondo. Back in early days it had quite a reputation for a party place when a barge with prizefighters and fans appeared for "good times in the old town tonight". It stayed far enough away local law enforcement couldn't get to the owners. Eventually people's complaints and persistent constables got them to leave. The "good old days," I guess is interpretation, hmm? I prefer today. This quaint little place is a real respite from the big city just a few miles away.

Next, Gig Harbor. It's is a more commercial town with a nautical flair, but the photos may not show that. It's off Highway 16 between Tacoma and Bremerton. Lots of parking on the street, but the town is strung out on the 2.8 miles of waterfront. Expect to do lots of walking. Lots of sightseeing (be sure and drive the waterfront road).

Quaint shops. Good restaurants. Antiques (the blue building in the downtown photo is an antiques store). Charter fishing. Community celebrations. Resorts and bed and breakfasts. One is just a few blocks from the antique store. Population: 6,477. Take a look at the website and check it out some more. Visit. Expect it to be busy most days, with traffic jams during rush hour (one way in and out from the town). But it's still nice.

Both communities have a charm all their own. Be sure to visit while you're in our state.

Until next week!
