Now Jeff and his brother Paul are successful auctioneers out of Federal Way under Stokes Auction Group, doing mostly charity auctions; they do auctions all over the United States. All the Stokes have succeeded in business by word of mouth; Larry says this is a 99 percent word-of-mouth business.

Larry was a diver prior to becoming an auctioneer and is also retired from the Navy. His daughter LeAnn and son-in-law have plans to buy out the business and he will then retire in the near future. Shirley says she's already retired, but she still works hourly. The Stokes are looking forward to traveling and enjoying life after all their hard work.

Larry has done auctions for different Navy organizations, and expects to do one in June when he goes to his Viet Nam reunion. After that it's on to Panama City to do an auction.

Larry also has a taxidermy business: Larry Stokes and Mark Boardman Taxidermy; check out another intriguing business he's involved in.

Larry can't quite fathom stopping work entirely. When his daughter and son-in-law do take over the business in the next year or so, Larry hopes to continue as a consultant. For him and Shirley, it's going to be a big change to slow down when they retire; this successful Washington State family-built business is up to its ears in work.
