Valentine's Day in Washington

© Jerri Brooker

Just for fun I thought I'd do a little Valentine's Day search on the internet using the words "Valentine" and "Washington" as my criteria. Bingo; here's what I found!

Two Washington State residents with the last name of Valentine were pretty easy to find! Brian Valentine, Senior Vice President, Windows Division, Microsoft Corporation was the first link I clicked on. Since the press release on Mr. Valentine was a couple of years old, and the way things change, I don't know if he's still in the same position. So I passed on that one. The next Valentine namesake that appeared is a research scientist for a research firm in Washington State. Since I'm not sure her employer is aware she's looking for new employment, I'll keep that link to myself.

Okay, so these two links are not really about Valentine's Day and Washington State, are they? Can't resist a little trivia now and then. But you want to hear about some real Valentine's Day stuff, right?

Well, when I surfed the web I got what I wanted, a flavor of the holiday, a little love story that came about because of Talk City. A Washington resident, and an Ohio resident got to know each other via the internet, then married and now live in Washington State. Now this one got my heart a-fluttering! Love over the internet straight from Washington State to Ohio. Wow!

I have an even better tale. I know a Washington State resident, okay she's my sister, who met a California chap on the internet and they soon met. He moved to Washington to marry. They now live in New Mexico. It was pretty exciting to hear how the internet brought them together. Since I'm a long-married person, the romance was fun to watch. She'd not be too happy if I told their secrets over the internet, so that's all I can say.

Then I clicked on BJ's Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast in Port Angeles, WA and my heart nearly melted when I read about the "Valentine Romantic Getaway" - that was just the ticket I was looking for. The site listed a getaway no romantic could ignore, "Two nights in a fireplace suite with Jacuzzi for two, massage for two, chocolates on arrival and savory morning breakfast with panoramic water views" - now you're talking! In my home town, even!

I know what my Valentine's Day has in store; we are refinishing floors in our home. I can dream, can't I? We have family to visit when we get to our home town, but maybe someday I can take advantage of this romantic place. I bet they are filled for this holiday, but you folks may want to take note and reserve a room for next year. Port Angeles really is a beautiful place on the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Northern Washington.
