Meandering Into Fall

Fall is here, full of respendent colors along with the welcome feel of the cool night air. In Washington State, activities are rampant to celebrate the new season. Fall is one of my favorite seasons in the state. Ramble around the state with me this fall to see what's going on.

We all have favorite things we like to do. The Puyallup Fair is coming to a close this week (check links in my last article). Get there soon to have one of those great scones and a fair burger with fried Walla Walla onions. See the Grange booths and quilts, vendor exhibits, rides, animals, etc. What a great way to welcome in Fall. If you can't make it, then visit their webcams around the fair. Can't you just taste those scones and elephant ears?

Communities are beginning to plan for their fall and winter activities. We don't miss any activies due to rain or snow in this state. We are prepared! I wonder out loud if the cool, crisp days keep us more creative in our pursuits to have fun. There always seems to be freshness in the air that livens my lust for wandering.

Are you into the hobby of classic car restoration? I followed a beautiful purple Model A this morning as I drove to borrow a computer (mine is down). I'm not generally into cars, but thought you might be.

There are a lot of car shows and swap meets still going on in Washington State this time of year. Check out Biscay's Classic Chevy in Rochester, Washington and check the shows and swap meets Jim Biscay, owner, is booked to attend. Classic cars will be around at these affairs to ooh and ahh over.

Jim's specialty is Camaros, El Caminos and Chevelles, but other cars are also represented at these shows. Saturday Jim will be in Centralia. He'd love to talk with you about cars, if that's your interest. By the way, Centralia was founded in 1875 by a black man born into slavery, George Washington.

Go south into its sister city, Chehalis, if you'd like to learn more about the area. It houses an 1845 log cabin that is the oldest pioneer structure north of the Columbia River.

We have a lot of evergreens in the Western Washington and some deciduous trees. More deciduous trees are in Eastern Washington. The fall colors are great. Chuckanut Drive in Bellingham is a great place to see the fall colors. Bellingham is a college town.
