The last city you travel through from Washington State into Portland, Oregon, is Vancouver, Washington. We have passed that way many, many times while traveling to one of our favorite Oregon towns without stopping. Now I am going to slow down and share some of Vancouver's riches with you.

Join me for a tour. This is just a bird's eye view. Check on some of the links to see more about this beautiful city.

Vancouver is a city on the cutting edge. You will see that at the city website. Read about what's going on in the city and what opportunities are available for residents and visitors. See the city's "most wanted" list or check out community events and job opportunities. This is one of the best city sites I have encountered, as far as variety. For more information on other Washington cities, check out this link. Expand your horizon of the United States here. Or visit http://www.southwestwashington.com - click on what to do and there you go! From the historic reproduction of Ft. Vancouver to Officer's Row where you may visit Ulysses S. Grant's house and others.

I'm a bit slow at getting this information to you, but on July 28-31 they are having a Buffalo Soldier Reunion celebration at the Vancouver Barracks to honor an important part of our history, the Buffalo Soldiers who served in the US Army from 1866-1944. Sargeant William Moses who is buried there (for 100 years)is being honored at the celebration. The day also marks 150 years for the Vancouver Barracks. Click on the link for some interesting history. Everybody's invited to join in this historical event.

Where is Vancouver?

Here's a map. Click on Vancouver and get a better view of the western region of the state. Click again, and if you take the time for it to load, you will have a great map to use when getting around the city.

The map site is courtesy of Tom McKinnon of Port Townsend. He owns the Washington State Road and Internet Map Site, and tells me that in about a week his new site will be running and will include every conceivable Washington State map - population maps, weather maps, etc. I just received a map I ordered from him in a flash!

Be sure to bookmark this one, folks. Tom McKinnon Company will also send you a map by mail. Check it out.
