A Little Spring Cleaning: Interesting Washington State Links

It's spring and I'm finding myself organizing and getting bits and pieces of paper and files in order that I have previously set aside for "later." Since my Washington State writing file is getting pretty large, I thought I'd share some miscellaneous links with you, my readers, rather than jump in to write articles on the items at this point.

Here's what I've collected and now share with you, a potpourri of Washington places, information and websites. There's a bit of something for everyone:

  • Northwest Bride and Newlywed Magazine: Washington State has its own bridal magazine: http://www.everafternw.com/NWBrideMag/NW... .

  • Richard Hugo House: http://www.hugohouse.org/ , is a Seattle non-profit community center for writers and readers. They offer classes and interactions with other writers and readers. This link is worth a click if you are in the Seattle area and want to get into the writing culture of the area.

  • Soap Lake Lava Lamp Project: http://www.giantlavalamp.com/ . Do you want to help this town make history? They are going to assemble a 50-foot tall simulated lava lamp and need your donations.

  • Spokane Valley Heritage Museum http://www.valleyheritagecenter.org/ . Spokane Valley has not been a city long, but they already have a museum to be proud of in the Opportunity Township Hall on Sprague. It highlights the history of Spokane Valley.

  • Tacoma Pioneer Telephone Museum: http://www.scn.org/tech/telmuseum/tac.ht... . This museum is located in Tacoma, WA, and would be worth a visit if you are interested in telephone history.

  • The Museum of Puget Sound does not have a website right now but is listed here: http://www.grapeviewwa.com/Business%20in... . It holds treasures of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet of 1853. It's on Stretch Island in Grapeview, WA. It's an obscure little museum full of such treasures as a neat distress light, a ships bell from Cedar Creek (two bells means all's well), a model of the old Coleman Dock and other items too numerous to mention.

C.W. Bill Somers is the founder. The museum is open by appointment from May 1 to November 1. A phone number is at this link.

  • Washington State Smoke Free Restaurant site where you can search for a smoke-free restaurant: http://www.secondhandsmokesyou.com/resta... .

  • Wines Northwest Calendar, Washington Wine Country: http://www.winesnw.com/CalendarWA.htm . If you are into wine events, this is a great site to catch what's happening in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia.

These links should keep you busy for a while.

Happy Surfing!
