Kalaloch, Beautiful Ocean Beach

Kalaloch Lodge
It has been about five years since I wrote about Kalaloch, my favorite ocean beach spot, so I figure it's time to visit this beautiful area again. We recently stayed at Kalaloch Lodge in the Sea Crest House at this rustic ocean getaway. One of the joys of Washington beaches: you may enjoy them any time of year and come away with great memories of good times. Just bring rain gear in the winter and be prepared to get wet. Enjoy some beach storms; they can be pretty awesome.

If you ask I'll tell you I think there's no more beautiful beach in Washington than this stretch of Pacific Ocean. Okay, Oregon has the best overall coastline, but we don't do too bad in this area. I admit; I'm prejudiced on this place; I simply feel at one with the world when I'm here.

To catch that feeling, take a peek at my 1999 article on Kalaloch: at http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/wash... . You'll understand how much this place plays a part in my life. It's almost magical. The article links no longer work, but the message is there for the taking.

Have you ever been to Kalaloch?

Check out their site: http://www.visitkalaloch.com and you'll see what it's all about: a beautiful ocean beach resort on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean - a lodge, cabins that sleep up to 8 and a motel. The lodge sports a restaurant and gift shop, too. There's also a nearby campground where I spent a lot of my youth.

Have you ever connected with a special place on earth?

Well, this is the place for me. I wandered the beach as a kid, now I wander as an adult. The experiences are different, but the same. I was able to get some great photos to share. Enjoy the photos; they are all part of the beach experience.

On this trip we arrived at Kalaloch early afternoon and our room was not yet ready, so we sat at a picnic table by the lodge and lazily waited for our room basking in the welcome sunshine with a newspaper and ice cream bar in hand, beautiful view in the offing. It was a delightfully bright day, especially since we experienced so much rain the day before in Quinault.

Prior to stopping at the lodge we stopped at Ruby Beach; old-time feelings flooded by brain as I felt a bit of sadness thinking of old times long passed. I quickly recovered and enjoyed its beauty. This beach is known for its spires of stone; you can see some in the following pictures.
