Moby Dick Hotel and Oyster Farm at Nachotta

My husband and I recently met Gregg Pasterick, Suite101 editor of Wildflowers of North America, at the Moby Dick Hotel and Oyster Farm in Nahcotta, Washington, where he now resides.

Not only did I show up unannounced (okay, I did warn him I might stop in), I unknowingly came through the back door and even almost stepped on some chives growing in the beautiful garden on the grounds as we visited. Greg was very gracious.

It was a pleasure to meet another Suite101 editor in such a beautiful setting. Gregg recently joined the hotel as Innkeeper, so he agreed to share firsthand information on this jewel off-the-beaten-path in southwest Washington on Willapa Bay, not far from Long Beach and the ocean.

At first view the surrounding landscape is breathtaking; a beautiful organic garden housing flowers, shrubs, trees herbs and vegetables greets you as you enter the hotel drive. The colors awaken your senses as the garden introduces itself and the yellow paint on the hotel gives a happy glow

We were so taken with it and the waterfront and had such a short time to visit, I really didn't concentrate on what the hotel has to offer. So Gregg offered to do an interview. Here's what he has to say about this find near Ocean Park, Washington.

.

Jerri Brooker: What a beautiful place, landscaped by a breathtaking organic garden, fronting Willapa Bay, fresh oysters practically at your feet. If I had not been here before, Gregg, what would you tell me to entice me to come to this hidden wonder?

Gregg Pasterick: You just did! We do sit on Willapa Bay! We do have incredible organic gardens full of herbs and veggies we use in our cooking and explosions of flowery colors and fruit trees and native species and we do harvest our own oysters!!!

The inn sits in the midst of a gorgeous piece of nature, surrounded not just by our gardens and the bay, but we also have a little bit of rainforest through which several paths pass, meandering in such a way, you're never sure where you'll come out. I'm not entirely convinced the same path comes out at the same place each time I walk it!

All this nature that surrounds us not only appeals to nature-lovers, it attracts artists, writers mostly (imagine that ... smile). I guess we are a big, green, warm and comfy lap to curl up in.
