The Rain Forest Resort Village at Lake Quinault

Some of the most spectacular scenery in the northwest corner of Washington State is at the Hoh Rainforest, but there's another treat at the Quinault Rainforest, not far away.

When I previously wrote about the Hoh and Quinault Rainforest a few years ago I really didn't cover much of the Quinault area because it has been a long time since I've been there and I could not give an accurate view. Since then, Dave Morrison of the Rain Forest Resort Village contacted me and offered to do an interview on this area. Join me as we visit the Rain Forest Resort Village and the Quinault Rainforest.

Jerri Brooker: Tell us about the Rain Forest Resort Village (location, amenities, surroundings, directions, etc.)

Dave Morrison: Rain Forest Resort Village is found on the South Shore of Lake Quinault on Washington State's Olympic Peninsula. We are just outside Olympic National Park. As you probably can tell by our name, we are located in Quinault Rainforest. We have Fireplace Cabins, our new Parkside Suites, Village Inn rooms, Lakeside R.V. Park, Salmon House Restaurant & Lounge and our General Store and Office.

Jerri: If I were new to Washington State, what would draw me to the area? What would you tell a potential visitor?

Dave: Lake Quinault and the Quinault Rainforest are unique. One of only three rain forests found in America, it averages about 12 feet of rain per year. Along with this and/or because of this, at least six record size trees grow in the Quinault Valley. The biggest trees in the World outside of California's Redwoods and Sequoias are found here.

The Largest Spruce in the World lives at the Rain Forest Resort. Even though we are in a rainforest it does not rain every day of the year. When the sun is shining you will not find a more beautiful place. Even when it is raining, you will find beauty beyond imagine. Rain Forest Resort Village is right in the middle. There are trails that lead into the rainforest right from the resort.

Jerri: Tell us about the Quinault Rainforest. What are some of the attractions a visitor might enjoy? How does it compare to the Hoh Rainforest?

Dave: Lake Quinault is an attraction. Fishing, canoeing, sailing, sun bathing, swimming. Peace, you will find peace and serenity here. Relaxing and unwinding. I could go on and on, but (the) big attraction is the (Quinault) Rainforest and all that comes with it.
