If you're looking to get your groove on in Washington, DC on New Year's Eve, it's not too late to make plans. As of today, there are still tickets available to several great parties that offer everything from fabulous bands to complimentary champagne toasts at midnight. Here are a few of the available options:
- Arlington's Clarendon Grill is opening up for the overflow crowds who did not buy tickets in time to attend the Blitzen Ball at the Clarendon Ballroom. Tickets are available for $65, and the party rocks from 8 p.m. until the management kicks everyone out. Advance ticket purchase is required, and tickets can be purchased at the Blitzen Ball web site.
- Starting at 9 p.m., swing fanatics can dance the night away at America Restaurant in Tyson's Corner Center for just $10. For more information, call 703.847.6607. I'm guessing this bargain does not include free drinks or food...
- Local musical favorites Da Vinci's Notebook and Eddie From Ohio will help ring in the New Year at the State Theater in Falls Church. $65 gets you an appetizer buffet and a champagne toast at midnight. The concert gets rocking at 7 p.m.
- For more great music, try the New Year's Festivities at The Birchmere. For $25, Nickel Creek and the Bill Kirchen-John Starling Band will entertain you starting at 8:30 p.m.
- There are plenty of hotel-based parties downtown, and The D.C. incarnation of the National Millennium Party is definitely worth checking out. Held at the Grand Hyatt downtown, the current ticket price ($155 as of December 20) includes a six-hour top shelf open bar, all kinds of food, and several types of musical entertainment. There are also hotel specials available for those who don't want to drive home.
- Even if you're not going to be in D.C. for New Year's Eve, check out Party D.C.'s fun and fabulous web site. This organization is also offering a hotel-based party featuring Gonzo's Nose, a local band that plays an incredible range of covers, and several other great features. This party will start at 9 p.m. at the Capital Hilton, which is near the White House, and runs until 2 a.m. Tickets run $119.50 per person, and this hotel also has special deals available for those who want to stay overnight.
This is in no way an exhaustive listafter all, there's a lot going on in D.C. on New Year's Eve! For additional New Year's ideas and listings, check out The Washington Post's listings. It's a great resource for all kinds of ideas.
