Colonial Wargaming Part 1 - Web sites and magazines

Magazines past and present

For inspiration and background detail checkout Milton Soong's Savage and Soldier online. It is Soong's admirable intention to bring thirty years worth of magazine articles to the web. The material in these articles has not dated, and they form an important resource for Colonial wargamers.

Amongst the many general wargaming magazines available, there is a small group targeted at particular periods. Partizan Press produce several of these, and Age of Empires (originally called Colonial Conquest) is a good example. With someone like Ian Knight intimately involved with the magazine, it will be fairly obvious to anyone interested in the period just how useful this publication will be. I recommend you study the list of back issues - for example #1, produced back in 1992, was a bumper edition on the Zulu Wars and #8 on the Pony Wars. The magazines can be obtained through Caliver books. On individual or subscription basis.
