Most of the articles I have written are full of text and information. Even I am getting a bit bored by these technical terms... I am not sure how many of you have actually looked at or use some of the WAP devices. Things are changing everyday, and companies are certainly keeping themselves busy in the WAP world. To give a better idea of what is out there, I have prepared this pictorial article to show some of the latest and greatest mobile devices.
If you have not heard of a company called Symbian, you should start now! Symbian develops an operating system named EPOC. The EPOC operating system is being looked at as the next standard mobile operating system. Many mobile device companies are rolling products with EPOC as their operating system. The latest development platform is called Quartz, aka Palm Killer. This platform is targeted to compete with Palm OS. Ericsson has announced its latest Quartz Platform. The product will be shipped initially without phone capability, but it is the company's plan to make a PDA type phone. About same time, Motorola has also shown a Qaurtz Platform product to the public. Using the same OS (EPOC Quartz), this device is also coming soon to the store near you. Do we all need to use pen based devices (the above two) in the future? No!! As you can see the next device is also based on the EPOC OS. This Motorola communicator device also runs with EPOC, and provides voice communication. When can you get this one? Well, this is only a concept design at this point... You have to wait a bit longer for this one. :) Sounds like EPOC OS is playing a very important role in the mobile world. :) Do you think the software giant Microsoft will just sit there and watch... No! Microsoft of course has its plan to use its famous Windows CE OS. This device made by Compaq is a good example of Microsoft's attack on the mobile world. Together with the MSN mobile website, Microsoft will not be taken out of the wireless world. To end this article, I want to show you one more picture of SamSung's camera phone. By now, you should believe the next generation of mobile devices and phones will be your "Digital Swiss Army Knife". Extra: Please join the WAP Suite mailing for updates of news articles, and URLs. I will tell you when new articles are up. :) Please come to http://www.camelot.net/wap/
