WAP Crash course

I have been thinking... (It is indeed a rare event for me. =P) How do I make the most out of a monthly article? It seems like if I stick with only one topic for each article, I can only address a tiny part of WAP a month at a time. Therefore instead of writing one specific story, I am trying to divide the article into subsections. Hoping that this can make the article alive.

WAP on the move In this section, I will touch on the latest news about WAP, if any. News include industrial trends, company announcement, and special events. This is to show you WAP is moving on, and it is not a dull subject. Somewhere out there money is being made or spent on WAP. =)

First news I have for this month is "Intel forms wireless group. Chip maker moves to become a bigger player in cellular and wireless communications." More on this link http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/news...

Second, "Browser War Is Brewing In Mobile Phones" http://www.planetit.com/techcenters/docs...

Go2 System Inc. also announce that it will started to use WML to generate mobile contents.

ABC of WAP I have received comments from readers, not bad after only one article has been published. The comments reflect that WAP is rather a new subject to the Internet, I agree, and we need to address the basic a little more. In this section, I will touch on WAP's technical terms. With these building blocks, we then construct a bigger and better picture of WAP. Okay let's do it.

Before we go through a list of WAP terms, I would like to stretch couple points I did not mention in the last article. Say we know what WAP is, then why WAP? WAP will provide wireless application to be developed once for all networks. In the wireless world, we have CDMA, TDMA, SMS, GMS, and etc... All these networks use different protocols to communicate. WAP puts the difference aside, and provide a standard way of creating application. Two more facts we should keep in mind. 1. Micro browser will be shipped with mobile phones. 2. WAP is truly open with Board of Directors with 13 members (different companies).

A subsection of WAP called WAE (Wireless Application Environment) is the best place to start getting to know WAP. WAE describes the components we have to make a real wireless network talks WAP. Each components needs in-depth dissuasions. We will just forget about details for now. (Well, if you ask me, the true is I need time to research on each topic to give you more info.) Be simple:
