Job Descriptions

  • Supervision Received Confusion about supervision can arise when the volunteer manager is not responsible for directly overseeing people or when a volunteer job is not carefully thought out. It is very important that volunteers know who their supervisor is. That way, they know who to ask questions, bring grievances to, and accept tasks from. (Occasionally staff will try to be helpful by keeping volunteers busy when, unbeknownst to the employee or the volunteer, someone else had a specific job for them.)
  • Supervision Exercised This section will probably not be necessary for most volunteer jobs, but remember to fill it out whenever appropriate.

Please share your experiences on the effectiveness of job descriptions with fellow readers by posting a message on the Volunteerism discussion board.
