Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2 is another water-soluble vitamin like all B vitamins. It is easily absorbed and any excess is excreted in the urine. The amount that is excreted depends upon the amount that the body needs. This vitamin is not stored and needs to be replaced daily. B2 is also known as Vitamin G. It is measured in milligrams. The need for vitamin B2 is increased during stressful situations. B2 is America's most common vitamin deficiency.

Vitamin B2 aids in growth and reproduction. It promotes healthy skin, nails, and hair. It helps eliminate sore mouth, lips, and tongue. It helps benefit in better vision and alleviates eye fatigue. It helps to function with other substances to aid in to metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

A deficiency in B2 will bring on onsets of mouth, lips, skin, and genitalia lesions.

The best sources for B2 is milk, liver, kidney, yeast, cheese, leafy green vegetables, fish, and eggs. The best ways to take supplements are through a B-complex vitamin.

There is no known toxicity, but some possible side-effects are itching, numbness, sensations of burning or prickling.

Some enemies of this vitamin are light (especially ultraviolet light). Milk is now stored in opaque cartons to protect the amount of riboflavin. Water is another natural enemy of B2, along with sulfa drugs, estrogen, and alcohol.
