An article in early March by JUDITH H. DOBRZYNSKI of the New York Times started "The Whitney Museum of American Art's Biennial is an exhibition of new and often cutting-edge American art. This year, one work may be a little too cutting..."
Ah, yes! She is referring to a new art exhibit, in a different borough (Manhattan instead of Brooklyn), and a PRIVATELY funded art museum, the Whitney. And...HE'S BAAAACK... Mayor Rudy Giuliani can rant, rave, and do little else. His huge flap over the "Sensation" show at the Brooklyn, which closed just a few weeks ago, was bound to bring on some scathing artistic comment, and it has. A German-born artist, Hans Haacke, has put Giuliani in the same "camp" with the Nazis. Strong stuff, indeed. As someone reminded me not long ago, "Never take on a guy who has an unlimited supply of printer's ink!" (a journalist) - only, in this case, Giuliani is rattling the cages of artists all over the place. Hans Haacke has responded! And the show didn't even open until March 23! In early March, the already infamous inflammatory piece wasn't even completed, according to the article in the Times. Go to the Whitney Museum here: http://www.whitney.org/ You can navigate their pages from that point, and even go to the museum store. Don't forget to come back here to Suite 101. Go To Page: 1
