SQS wants to apologize in advance to anyone who may take his posting as a sign of disrespect or an attempt to inject levity into what is a very serious situation. He realizes that this is a time of utmost seriousness and assures you that he is completely sincere - and hopes that you will listen to his words in the spirit in which they are intended. An Address to the World by SQS Penguin Dear fellow citizens of the planet Earth. I come to address you this day with a heavy heart. Laden by burdens so heavy I scarce can bring myself to consider from whence they derive. Let me first tell of the lightest of the burdens I bear. I must apologize for my untimely absence from the world stage, just at the time when my leadership is needed most. You see I was in Arizona caring for a dear friend who was ill. Neither of us had the radio on. The world seemed to be on an even keel and I simply took advantage of the lack of a spotlight to quietly slip off look after one dearly loved individual instead of the world. I cannot apologize for what was done out of love.. But I am learning that among the responsibilities of accepting leadership is the responsibility to be ever vigilant. Vigilant not only of opportunities for mankind, but also vigilant for the emergence of the foibles of this most gifted of creatures. Yes, we must be constantly aware of the injustices and temptations that lead to events such as those of September 11, 2001, truly another date that will live in infamy. We must remember September. Like each and every citizen of this world my heart also bears the burden of sorrow. Sorrow for 1,000's of lives lost. Sorrow for fear, terror, and hopelessness that must have been felt by so many of the victims prior to their deaths. Sorrow for families...for the mothers and the fathers, the wives and the husbands, the sons & daughters, the close cousins, aunts, uncles, the fiancées, the close friends, the co-workers, the business associates of these victims. Never again will they see their loved ones, their friends, their trusted employees and advisors alive. In many cases never again will they see them at all. Such is the terrible nature of these tragedies. Yes Tragedies...for each and every death is a tragedy unto itself. Let us pause and offer our prayers again and again for the thousands of victims who have gone and for the 10's of thousands of victims who need healing. We Must remember September.
