Yard Art - A Seriously Tacky Garden

yard butts and more

Part of what may have won the neighbors over are the visual puns in the garden - like those plastic snails Susan mentioned above. Sticking them in the dirt might be tacky - but having a procession of them processing from an open mailbox is a pun. You have heard of snail mail, haven't you?

Or how about a metal sculpture of a dog planted firmly in an old Chinese wok. Anyone up for "Wokking the Dog"?

It's hard not to smile at these - for they are more than just yard ornaments haphazardly arranged. There is a definite sense of humor and a lot of thought going into this yard decor. And that makes all the difference.

And Susan even has found a way to turn the yard into a potential benefit for some lucky charity. Maybe. "I want my fellow tacky gardeners to know that each display that is donated by a friend or neighbor is tagged. We have explained to folks that if they wish to remain anonymous, it will cost them money! (Great fundraiser, don't you think?)"

So far it appears that the donors enjoy being identified. They seem rather proud of their ability to go from horrified reactions to getting down and tacky themselves -as long as it's in someone else's yard.

See the display - and the house that inspired it - in living color, with Susan's comment. Just click here. And enjoy!
