A Spiritual Journey with Ram Dass, Geoffrey and Jai

Maggie and Mary Ellen Return to Hollyhock:

As I drive down the dirt road to Hollyhock, I feel as if I am coming home. Maggie and my first glimpse is of the Gatehouse and the Gardens, lining the parking lot. We go inside and register, then browse the adjoining gift shop. I spot at once, a beautiful hand made drum. It is covered with Deerskin and has a painting of " Spirit Family." The subject is apropos, as I am searching out my family's ancestors, now in spirit!

I have been looking for years at these drums made by Kristen, who lives on the island. She gets her skins from islanders. Many are roadkill others from deer shot by islanders for food. Today I will buy the drum.

Maggie and I then go out the back entrance and enter the wonderful Hollyhock Garden. We walk among the flowers and take in the scents and colors. Then we go into the lodge for herbal tea. It is good to be back!

Before long we meet Peter, our host for today, who packs our luggage in a golf cart and whisks us to our accommodations. What an improvement! I was dreading trying to drag my bags down the many uneven stairs to the Beach House.

Beach house has a large living area with comfortable chairs and a window seat. It has been spruced up and is very inviting. Then there is the spectacular view of the water. I am especially happy with the fridge, where I will keep my cold drinks and leftover fruit from my cooler. There are 3 bedrooms that share this common room and the large bathroom.

Maggie room is in a new acquisition to Hollyhock, the house of former manager Rex. It is now called Bluff House. Maggie is thrilled with her accommodation, which has a view and it's own hot tub.

Our first day is spent unpacking and relaxing, as our workshop does not start till tomorrow evening. At dinner we meet Ram Dass and his secretaries Marlene and Joanne, as they too have arrived a day early. He looks good!

The meals are, if possible, even better than I remember. Although most of the meals here are vegetarian, tonight we have a skewer of BBQ shrimp, onion and green pepper and a piece of baked salmon, along with all the usual delicious side dishes and salads. This is after an appetizer of BBQ oysters on the beach.
