Palm Springs being a destination resort has a plethora of lodgings, restaurants, spas, golf courses, RV parks, and many other attractions for visitors. However Palm Springs has some well-kept secrets, hidden treasures not on the beaten path.

For Campers, Fishermen and RVers

Driving around the La Quinta area, we came upon,Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area, nestled against the rugged Santa Rosa Mountains. The blue waters of the picturesque lake lap the sandy shore and tall palms line the roadways. The grassy picnic areas are dotted with shade trees and wooden picnic tables. There is a sandy beach area and under a large canopy there is a large swimming pool. No swimming is allowed in the lake(Pool open April through November). It is as if we have come upon a oasis in the desert.

This regional park has a developed RV and campground area with utilities, electric, water, pay showers and dump stations. There is a primitive campground with fire rings, picnic tables and access to water. There is also an equestrian camp. Pets are welcome for a fee but must be kept on a leash. There is even a dog walk area.

The lake is stocked with catfish and trout. (No gas or remote controlled boats. Electric is okay). California fishing licenses are required and a daily stocking fee is charged. One may also fish from the shore. Bait is for sale at the check stand. Licenses must be purchased at retail outlets offsite.
