course toward Pine Island, where the pilots get off. Then it's up throught Queen Charlotte Sound and Hecate Strait Past Prince Rupert, the Queen Charlotte islands, bound for Alaska.

After breakfast we book a 5 hour wild life and glacier tour for the next day when we are docked in Juneau. We play bingo, Attend an ice carving demonstration, a Royal Dutch Tea, where the pastry chefs present some delicious traditional pastries, that royalty enjoyed during days gone by. At 5 we are invited to the Captain's champagne reception, where we meet the senior officers of the ship.

Tonight's dinner is formal, and it is interesting to check out the finery of our shipmates. The menu at this "Chaine de Rotissere", recommended restaurant, is varied as usual, tonights, tempting entrees being a choice of Beef Chateaubriand , Medalians of Veal tenderloin as well as a Chicken Cordon Bleu and 2 seafood creations. Vegetarian cuisine, and lighter fare is also available each evening.

After dinner we attend the live variety musical show in the Rubens lounge. It is called Las Vegas nights and stars the Veendam cast, dressed in elaborate costumes by Bob Mackie, designer of Costumes for Cher and other famous stars. The cast has lots of enthusiasm and seem to be having fun. Mother loved it.

They are truly incredible and are a foreshadowing of the abundant wildlife we will see as we continue our voyage. We are now in Alaskan waters, looking forward to our arrival in Juneau
