Turkey Trot
Suddenly a chilling thought strikes. Being as Thanksgiving (American) is a short time away, perhaps they're being herded to the chopping block. But no,we are the only humans in sight."Are they aware of the coming holiday?" We ask ourselves. Pu'u O Hoku is special place, where the cattle are led from field to field, not by herding dogs, or cowboys on horses, but with Jack the ranch boss, walking and calling them to follow . They know he will lead them to greener pastures. Would Jack one day lead this family group to their demise? Shortly after this sighting we see Jack. We ask about their fate. He tells us that the birds were bought some time ago hoping they would go wild and live in the huge forest which is part of this 14,000 acre ranch. Said forest is also home to wild pigs, barking deer, mongoose and a wide variety of birds. The turkeys however, refused to go wild and they continue to roam the ranch at will,in an ever growing flock. We have since seen this close knit group wandering here and there, stopping now and then for a visit and a gobble. Along with the turkeys we give thanks that none of them will grace a Thanksgiving table. Don't get me wrong I see nothing wrong with eating turkeys on Thanksgiving. I just don't want to know them.
