The Heart of Music
(NOTE: I do apologize for any syntax or grammatical mistake you will find in this text but I am french, not english, so...)
Ezines are the battlefield of people who wish to share their experiences with as many readers as possible thanks to the internet medium. Most of time writers are expected to be experts in a specific domain.
My domain ,ladies and gentlemen, is classical music. Shall I call myself an expert, Honestly, no. How could I pretend being one when I am unable to read notes…
However, I think I can talk or write about music in a large sense after having spent 30 years of my life ( I am 47 now) listening almost exclusively to classical music. I can recognize a large quantity of works after having just heard 5 or 10 notes of them.
What is the purpose of this article then ? On the contrary of the articles people write for the attention of specific groups of discussion related to a common interest for such or such item, this article is meant for everybody. I do hope it will be read by as many non-music lovers as by « professional », genuine ones.
Even if it’s one of the most difficult missions to try and convince someone who doesn’t know anything about you, about your goals, intentions and deep motivations, to trust you and follow your advice, I would like to tell my readers how profitable classical music can be to their soul.
You can’t listen to pop, rock, techno or anyelse sort of music without physically participating to it. You need to move in anyway because it is music that speaks to your body. It’s plain dance music.
Listening to classical music is quite different. You may shiver when listening to some particular opera aria or concerto movement or symphony, but the parts of yourself classical music will reach are your brain or your heart.
What’s more important ? The physical health or the mental health ? Do not expect me to answer this question. I made my own choice long ago and have been trying for years to have it adopted by my friends and relatives without much success, I must admit it.
Once I heard someone say « he (or she) who loves classical music must be a good person ». The fact that Hitler was an admirer of Wagner’s music would make me think that those words were just nonsense but it’s true that you will very
