Violin Valentines
Here are a couple of Valentine stories for violinists:
Well, the short one goes like this:
I was part of a traveling choir group whilst in high school. Every
Christmas, we would perform at a local dinner club, and before the choir
sang, the few of us that played instruments would play for ~10-15 min each.
There was a very cute guy that sang tenor, and his favorite Christmas hymn
was "O Holy Night." Since all of the music performed was piped into the
choir's warm-up room, I chose that song as my "finale" for my set. When I
got back to the warm-up room, I was greeted by a big smile, and a kiss on
the cheek!
The long one is this:
I went to the University of Notre Dame for college. Every dorm there has a
Mass on Sunday evening. I had never been able to "get into" the Masses in
my dorm, as I didn't particularly care for the priests that rotated through.
At the beginning of my junior year, a friend at a men's dorm asked if I
could play one Sunday, and I agreed. I liked the people I met there, and
the two priests that lived in the dorm, so I opted to come back. When I
did, there was another guitarist added to the ensemble. He was a freshman,
and I had to chuckle to myself when he asked me the typical "freshman five"
questions: Where was I from, what dorm did I live in, what was my major,
etc. (This, by the way, is a ND freshman guy's way of telling you he's
interested - strange but true!) I flirted with him on and off, but as he
was 2 years younger, didn't really think of it that seriously until that
Valentine's Day weekend. That Sunday, I set my case down as usual, and went
to get a drink of water. When I came back into the chapel, there was a
little bag of candy wrapped up in Valentine's-y paper sitting on my case!
After that I took him a little more seriously for the next two years!
(By the way, I wish I could say that everything was peachy after that, but
in fact we dated only on and off - but that doesn't make much of a romantic
story, and that's what makes it so loooong of a story for me!)

Hope all of you enjoy Valentine’s Day! Feel free to download some of the free sheet music from our links on the violin home page and make a music booklet. Put a red cover on it, and give it to your Valentine!
