Here's an interview with a representative from The American Federation of Violin & Bow Makers, Inc. They offer an on-line site, link referenced below, for help for all violin ages - beginners to advanced students and teachers.
Please visit their site, and tell them Suite101.com sent you! They offer wonderful resources for musicians. 1. Describe what your organization is all about - or not so briefly, is ok. Something I could print on-line for our readers. -The American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers, Inc. was founded as a non-profit organization in 1980, by twenty leaders of the profession, to elevate the national standards of craftsmanship and professional conduct. The Federation has grown quickly with its membership located throughout the United States and Canada. Information is also available on our web site http://www.afvbm.com. 2. Offer tips for beginning violin players &/or their parents; such as renting vs. buying instruments, where to shop, practice advice, taking care of the instrument advice..... -Please refer to our web page for the listing of our membership to find a member in your area to answer questions about your instrument needs.- 3. In winter, is weather harder on the instrument? What can be done, if so.... -Seasonal changes that are accompanied by changes in relative humidity are the most damaging to musical instruments. The wood in violins absorbs from and loses moisture to the air around it. This is can be especially bad in climates that require heating in the winter; heat makes the air dry and can lead to cracks, open seams and neck projection problems. Also traveling in and out of heated spaces adds to the problem. The rule of thumb is that a violin should not be exposed to extremes; the same temperatures and relative humidity that are good for humans are good for violins. - 4. Anything you'd care to add..... -Members of the AFVBM are required to meet rigorous minimum standards of training to qualify for entry, so musicians may feel confident that their instruments are being well cared for should they seek the services of one of our members.- 5. Where can they contact you...? -See question 2- >> Thank you for your interest in the AFVBM, David Polstein, Secretary. Thanks for your help, David! And here's a link for MORE free sheet music download sites!!!!!!!!!!! Visit: http://www.freesheetmusic.net/. Copy some and make booklets for great gift ideas!!!!!!!! Go To Page: 1
