Minatour: The Greatest Game Ever?©
This year, a decidely odd thing happened. While being visited by a friend of mine (who happens to be a hard corps PC gamer, himself) stumbled upon a most interesting game. It was part of Bungie's "Mac Action Sack" which I had purchased mainly for the complete Marathon series which it included. However, it also included Minatour.
After networking my trusty Mac SE 4/80 (through a localtalk-ethernet adapter, and Appletalk) to my iMac DV, we were in business. at first my friend was sceptical. But after a while, we slowly started playing Quake III, Unreal tournament, and all our other modern games less and less. We spent more and more time, however, playing Minatour.
Minatour is a (multiplayer only) basic 2D dungeon-crawler type game in which players move about a maze collecting different objects to use in battle against their opponents (up to 7). These objects range from a short sword to a cross-bow trap, with dozens of others in between. It incorporates 'lore', 'brawn', and 'agility' to create thousands of unique player combinations, all user-custimizable.
Perhaps best of all, it runs perfectly on any 8mhz computer, and just as well on my 400mhz iMac!
