20th Anniversary Mac: Worth the price? Many strange computers have come rolling out of Cupertino, the Pippin, Lisa, eMate, my friend's Performa 6300 sans red color tube in it's 14 inch apple monitor are examples of a few. Perhaps the strangest one, and easily the most coveted, is the infamous 20th Anniversary Mac (TAM). With it's 12.1" TFT screen, it's side mounted CD drive, and it's custom Bose audio, it is a sight to behold. Not built so much as a photoshop monster, but more as a highly aesthetically pleasing computer, it still has power. It sports a 250mhz 603e processor, with 256k of L2 cache. While this is not super quick, it will easily do almost anything your average user needs. The L2 cache is upgradeable to a full 1MB, which I'm told is a serious help to it's performance. In today's world one of the TAM's greatest assets is that it is G3 upgradeable. This goes a long way in making it a viable computing solution. But if you buy one, it's performance will merely be a justification to get the beautiful thing inside your home. To know what I mean goto: http://home.earthlink.net/~glimmung/twen... and take a gander for yourself. The price you say? Well since it cost $10,000 in 1997, it really isn't surprising that one of these will set you back between $1,500 and $3,000, depending on dealer and configuration. Is it worth it? Well, if you're going to be running filters for a buck, in a word: NO!. But if you want a beauty of a computer to wow your acquaintances, definitely.
