Disposing of classic hardware, where's the class?

Lately on the CompactMacs mailing lists there have been many reports of trashed hardware by ecstatic mac users. They're happy because they've just got a new piece of hardware for nothing, but I'm uneasy. I'm uneasy because I know that for each item which is found, ten must not be. I recently saw a post by a fellow who had found a LaserWriter IInx (along with a stylewriter 1500 )in a garbage can! Now those who read my recent article on laser printers know that this is an extremely useful piece of hardware, not something to be tossed away so nonchalantly. This widespread lunacy is not limited to periphials, there are even more computers found. Mac 512ks, Mac Pluses, Mac SEs, even the occasional SE/30 are found. Now for those who don't know an SE/30 is no lightweight computer, it has the same form factor as the SE, but with a 16mhz 68030 processor (instead of the 8mhz 68000). These are not useless computers by a long shot! Help stop the insanity which has stricken our land! Educate the masses! Pick up these expatriated beauties! Save our Classic hardware history!
