Vietnamese Cinderella: The story of Ta^'m and Ca'msorted the beans very quickly and soon Ta^'m was able to go to the festival. Cam was naturally surprised to see her half-sister at the festival. When her stepmother and Cam were staring at her, panicky, Ta^'m ran away in such a hurry that she lost one of her fine slippers. The king found the beautiful, dainty slipper and declared he had "never before seen such a work of art". He asked the ladies of the court to try it on, but no one seemed to fit. He then sent messengers throughout the kingdom to look for the woman whose foot could fit the slipper to make her his queen. One day, it was Ta^'m's turn to try the slipper on. It was a perfect fit. She was then married to the king and led a nice and happy life. The Vietnamese folktale of Cinderella did not end there. The story went on with Ta^'m's going home to celebrate a special feast with her family members , she was however killed by the step mother and sister. Ca'm returned to the palace instead and was taken in by the king as his second wife. Ta^'m being very pure and good, turned into a nightingale, living in the king's garden. It sang very beautifully. Recognizing his wife's voice, the king said to the bird to fly to him if it were indeed the soul of Ta^'m. The nightingale flew to him and rubbed her head against his hand. The king realized that was a very special bird, kept the cage in his bedroom and listened to the bird songs all day long. Ca'm became very jealous. Once again, the wicked stepmother and Ca'm succeeded in killing the bird and threw away its feathers. There was a great commotion at the palace when it was discovered that the nightingale flew off. Ta^'m 's restless soul was reincarnated and became a beautiful tree with only a single fruit, it was round, large and had a very sweet smell. One day there was an old woman who passed by and wished to have the fruit for its fragrant smell, so she opened her bag and sang; Suddenly the fruit dropped into her bag. After that day, the woman discovered that her house was miraculously tidied up and her dinner was always prepared and ready. The woman pretended to go out one day but returned and hid herself behind the door She discovered Ta^'m coming out of the fruit, quickly she tore up the peel and Ta^'m could no longer go back into the fruit.
