The country is divided into 50 provinces (tinh) They are in alphabetical order:

Government of Vietnam:

Vietnam has gained its independence from the French after the battle of Dien Bien Phu (2 September 1945) Its legal system is based on Communist and French civil law systems; its executive branch has a chief of state ( President), its head of government ( Prime Minister and three Deputy Prime Ministers) with a cabinet appointed by the president, on the recommendations by the prime minister and ratification of the Assembly. Its legislative unicameral branch is the National Assembly (Quoc-Hoi) and its judicial branch is the Supreme People's Court.

Economy of Vietnam:

Vietnam has moved from a controlled economy toward a more effective market-based economic model. Free trade and competitive pricing are encouraged, It exports two commodities, rice and crude oil with an estimate of $3.6 billion (f.o.b., 1994 est.) to include such commodities as petroleum, rice, agricultural products, marine products, coffee and it imports a total $4.2 billion (f.o.b., 1994 est.) of petroleum products, machinery and equipment, steel products, fertilizer, raw cotton, grain Trade partners include Singapore, Japan, South Korea, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan. .

the Vietnamese currency is the new dong (D) = 100 xu ; the exchange rate of new dong (D) per US$1 is= 11,000 (October 1994), 10,800 (November 1993). It has been effectively devalued and floated at world market rates.
