Veteran Writer - Novice Developer: Tools

© Carol Megrail

Hope your holiday and entry into the millenium was happy and safe! Now it's back to work -- and your CEO has just said, "I have a great idea. You can design us a website. One that will knock the competition flat . . ."

Well, just because we writers are by nature versatile, doesn't mean we've automatically embraced the seemingly confusing world of multimedia on the 'net. Even if your particular business, organization or company is blessed by having an artist, photographer, or even programmer on staff, you're going to need some "cheat sheets" and tools to overcome the natural learning curve.

Here are some free (or relatively free) tools and tutorials I'd recommend:

Ask Dr. Web

Presentation Graphic Programs

Cedge's "Cheat Sheet" - HTML

CNET Downloads - Development Tools

Free Web Hosting Sites

Bells and Whistles - java scripts and other aids

Java Applets

Amazing Resources

Krislyn's Best for Business Webmasters

If you approach your new task with enthusiasm and an open mind, you'll be amazed how soon you'll be adding "award winning multimedia web site design" to your list of creative credits. Enjoy!
