Yes, I realize you probably haven't heard or come across this site yourself. But what follows is a report on what two men, Bill and Jeff, have put together to provide you, the vegetarian or vegan, information on this diet and lifestyle.
SoyStache.com is a Web site founded by Mr. Bill Amey and Mr. Jeff Rogers, two environmentalists and animal rights activists who are also dietary vegans. They advocate their site as a "unique project to promote a plant-based diet. Serving the greater planet Earth!" Their project, in fact, has good intentions, though it is not unique. They call it "The SoyStache Project," meant to make a great impact on our world. They believe, in uncertain terms, that all would greatly benefit from an increase in plant-based diets, not only in terms of health, but also for the environment, diseases, and our living animals. Their project involves creating a book of celebrity vegetarians complete with photos and short bios. It would encompass a "book of special people dedicated to a healthy lifestyle, that we, and others like us could relate to ..." Aside from the fact the book would contain information on health, the environment, and animal rights, their idea of re-creating the "Got Milk" advertisements with celebrity shots of a plant-based mustache, seems a far target to reaching a global mass medium with most likely a critical audience seeing through this ploy. But they have to start somewhere, and the idea of promoting vegetarianism is not a bad idea. And you really can't go wrong when the project promises to donate proceeds from book sales to various plant-based charities. Though Bill and Jeff's "project" sounds a bit too and narrow and running off with an already worn idea, the Web site they have created is far more interesting. Turning to the homepage, you will find headers such as these: About our project, Recent articles of interest in the media, Vegetarian Organizations, About our pages, Interesting articles from friends on the web, a list of famous vegetarians, and much more. So let's break it down a little more to give you a clearer idea as to the depth of this site. "About our project" - I touched on this section above, but the authors describe their book and its' purpose, as well as their beliefs in veganism.
