Take a moment and ponder the many friends and family members you have around you. How many of them are vegetarians? Better yet, how many male vegetarians do you know?
Chances are, not very many. Men constitute a small proportion (one third) of the 12 million practicing vegetarians. Some authors have explained the reason there are fewer male vegetarians is due to lack of social acceptance. It may be seen as too feminine or soft for a "real man" to refuse meat. Or maybe it can be explained that men have been viewed as the "hunter and gather" and when a man refuses to eat meat, it's just unnatural. Whether any of those views hold any truth behind them, let's look at a short list compiled from a long list of well-known male vegetarians that defy society's social acceptance of meatfree men. The list you will see below is a shortened list of celebrities, music stars, and television personalities that you may have heard of. This growing list of male vegetarians continues to rise as more males take the plunge into vegetarianism.
