Upcoming Vampire Movies: May Update

Well, it's been two months since I did a piece on upcoming vampire movies-including those that are in production, in post-production, or aren't even scripted yet. So here are updates on the "Blade" and "John Carpenter's Vampires" sequels, as well as "Queen of the Damned," "The Lost Girls," and two new movies I've just heard about.

BLADE 2

According to Upcomingmovies.com, the distributor, New Line Cinema, has released its list for fall releases and "Blade 2" wasn't on the list. Tentative release of the movie, then, is likely February 2002.

Screenwriter David S. Goyer recently told "Comics Continuum" that the subtitle of the movie, "Bloodhunt," has been dumped. The movie just seems to simply be called "Blade 2" now.

According to a movies.com update on April 24 of this year, Wesley Snipes was admitted to hospital to treat burns he received on set. Snipes apparently suffered inflamed skin after working for hours under the hot lights. I couldn't find any reports of severe injuries, so I'm hoping he's fine now.

Added to the cast since I last wrote, are some more vampires: Donnie Yen (a Hong Kong action star), Norman Reedus and Leonor Valera.

Before the movie began production, Wesley Snipes told "TV Guide": "The original Blade is going to look like child's play compared to the sequel."

Well, I'm looking forward to it....

JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES 2: LOS MUERTOS

Production on "Los Muertos" started this past January and apparently wrapped up in early March of this year. Perhaps with the quick filming it'll be in theatres this fall-but that's not confirmed.

Wish I had more info on this one, but there's just nothing out there.

LOST BOYS 2: THE LOST GIRLS

This one's still in the early stages, with the production company still looking for a director/script. If there's any news, I'll pass it on to you.

QUEEN OF THE DAMNED

Sadly, there isn't much info available on this one, either. Filming has wrapped and the movie probably won't be released until 2002. ISLE OF THE DEAD A new vampire film currently being discussed is "Isle of the Dead." According to Upcomingmovies.com, it's a remake of a 1945 Boris Karloff film. The plot centres around a group of college students who are studying a Greek island. They discover a cemetery where a woman had once been buried alive, and the townspeople believe she is possessed by a vampire demon.
