Rick Buda - Wolfpointe

Wolfpointe is definitely outside the norm. While on the surface the plot sounds like a B horror movie, a small town threatened with an environmental disaster. A creature, a mutant, rising out of the swamp to kill, each murder more gruesome than the last. The heros, a young cop and a beautiful veterinarian, the only ones to see the threat. To save themselves and the unsuspecting town from disaster, they must fight political corruption within the police department, the big landowner, who rules the county and is bent on protecting the horrendous secret even if it means committing murder, and a hideous swamp creature. But don't let appearances fool you. Rick Buda has written a superb suspense novel, that captures your attention and keeps you on the edge of your seat as the hero, Malcom MacKurghdy seeks to unravel the mysteries and stop the killings.

So why am I reviewing it for Vampire eBook Authors? The Windigo! While I have always expected that Vampire eBook Authors would deal with all the creatures of the night, not just vampires, Wolfpointe is the first one I have had the chance to review, although it isn't the last. I have several other books waiting to read.

Rick Buda took an Ojibwa legend of a creature of the night, both of the dream world and the real world, and wove it into a creation of great interest and fascination which leaves the reader accepting the reality of such a creature in what basically is typical police procedural / suspense novel. The Windigo is superbly crafted and compelling, both horrifying and yet strangely sympathetic. According to the legends, those attacked by the Windigo, are changed, developing an irresistible craving for human flesh. Is it an ancient evil reborn into our modern world? A horrible mutation caused by toxic chemicals? Or merely a human, warped and deformed by life? I will leave the answer up to you.

I highly recommend Wolfpointe.
