Rick Buda - Wolfpointe

Cover of Wolfpointe
Rick Buda lives in a suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife enjoy landscaping their big backyard and decorating their house. But he certainly has a different perspective about suburban life, for him, dangers lurk among the placid country living.

Seventeen years ago, he made a vow to be published before he was fifty. He almost made it with the publication of his first book,Wolfpointe by Twilight Times Books.

Actually, Wolfpointe was his second book. His first Starshot took him eighteen years to finish. It was accepted for publication, but the company went out of business. He wrote Wolfpointe as a challenge to see if he could write a book in less time. It took him a year.

I can really relate. I too made a vow to be published before I was fifty, actually mine was to become a full time writer. I didn't quite make it, but almost. My first book also was accepted for publication twice, once the publisher closed its doors before it was published, the other after it was published but before it had sold any books. I'm now looking for a third publisher.

Rick currently has several writing projects underway, including a sequel to Wolfpointe with the same hero, Malcom MacKurghdy.

INTERVIEW

Are you a full time writer? Or do you have a day job? I certainly do have a day job. Writing is a late in life thing with me. I enjoy it and hope to continue, one day perhaps it will be my main source of income. My "normal" job is as an Electronic Instrumentation Specialist for a large chemical company. I have spent over 14 years with them and have traveled worldwide helping out in places here in the US to as far away as Thailand. Recently, we were in a meeting at work, discussing benefits and retirement. My boss wrote, "4-years 3-months and 10-days," on a note and showed it to an engineer and me. The engineer wrote "16 years." I wrote "One best seller." We'll see.

Your bio says that your only daughter got married last year. Any grandkids?

I do have a grand daughter from my oldest son's marriage. My daughter-in-law had a daughter before meeting my son and she is my grandchild. My other son is unmarried, unattached and living on his own. And my daughter - coming up on year one is not expecting any time soon.

Is the suburb where you live anything like WolfPointe and Timber Park? Hopefully no environmental hazards.

Well, the town I live in provides the play on words that is Timber Park. WolfPointe, while non-existent in reality,
