fantasies about what a male vampire should be. Having read several vampire
romances, I came to the conclusion that these vampire heroes were simply too
sensitive and kind to be vampires. I didn't like them. They didn't appeal to me. On the
other hand, I didn't want my hero to be the mindless, merciless killer of most horror
novels. I wanted him to have a sense of honor, in spite of his being a killer. I strove to
find that perfect balance between good and evil that would made Sadash believable. I
tried to create the vampire that I myself would love reading about. In terms of theme, I
have to admit the movie DRACULA was an influence. My novel, DARK HUNGER, is
also about obsessive love.
Why do you think that vampires are so popular? What is the fascination we have with these creatures of the night? How can one not be fascinated with the idea of immortality, of being physically powerful, of having gifts like reading people's minds and flying? We live so short and we are so vulnerable. Vampires are a fantasy by which we, in an imaginary level, reject the dreadful reality of human weakness, disease and mortality. What are you currently working on? I'm working on a horror novel set in Turkey titled LULLABY. Is there anything else you would like to share with the readers? To read everything, not to limit themselves reading only one kind of subject or genre. And I'm talking fiction and nonfiction. To read about science, history, religion, philosophy, music. To feed the brain with all kinds of books, good and bad. And this is even more important for aspiring writers. The intellectual knowledge an author acquires in life comes through in his or her writing. Education, for any kind of person, should be a lifetime endeavor. BOOK REVIEW In a Turkish bazaar a centuries old vampire, Sadash, is attracted to a ten-year-old tourist, Alana. He comes to her that night and marks her for his own. Twelve years later, Alana has just graduated from college, living in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has her first job as a the manager of a new restaurant-club, La Cueva del Vampiro, and is sharing an apartment with her best friend, Valeria. Valeria has been Alana's best friend since childhood. The teachers always referred to them as the redhead and the blonde. Alana is a quiet and shy redhead, while Valeria is more outgoing. Alana is still a virgin, while Valeria has had more than her share of lovers. Yet as different as they are, they are, as they call each other, twin souls.
