You are very right about the relationship, it's not traditionally romantic. For Jack it's an addiction. For Baby...Well, who really knows what's going on in her head? She could be the worst thing that ever happened to Jack or the best.
I just couldn't see them at that point in a hearts and flowers relationship. Now, I'm not saying love is out of the question but can you really see Jack as a romantic lead? As for where they'll end up as a couple or not...well, we'll have to see how it develops over the series. Your vampire society, rather feudalistic, is one that a lot of other authors have used, but the fact that they are a not so hidden power in New Orleans is different. Considering New Orleans, do you think that kind of situation could happen if Vampires were real? Yes, I do. New Orleans is a very old city with very old traditions but a history of accepting and taking the best from those who come there, both friend and enemy. It's a wonderful place and I've loved it my whole life. But as with anything a person truly loves, I can see the dark side as well as the sunny side. Until very recent years, graft and corruption were the order of the day. Even the police department was involved in drug trafficking and murder. Corruption has always been an issue in Louisiana politics. If a group of vampires wanted to have a base of power in the human world, New Orleans would be the perfect place to establish that base. It's also a city that's "open all night." You can do just as much after dark as you can during the day. And oddity is tolerated more there than a lot of places. If I was a vampire, I'd definitely want to live there. Tell us about the sequel WALKING AT MIDNIGHT. Will you be answering the questions about Baby's past? In WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT I continue exploring Jack's addiction to vampirism. He's very happy as Baby's pet - or was. Baby's abandoned him and he's seen everything he really wants slip through his fingers. He still has the house, the money, and the car but he doesn't have his vampire. And now bodies are appearing next to burning crosses accompanied by notes addressed to him. Someone is killing people who have taken vampire lovers and promise to kill more unless Jack goes to the media with what he knows about vampires. Yes, I'll fill in some of the blanks in Baby's life. You'll find out more about her, Jean, Renéé, Stewart, and Remy. You'll learn how they all fit together. But it also brings up more questions. I have some answers planned for Book 3 about Renéé and Baby's child and about Alec De Leon and what's really going on with the family.
